Cour des Vosges, Paris
It’s hard to dream up a better location for a Paris hotel: located in the heart of the Marais district, Cour des Vosges overlooks the Place des Vosges, famous for its Louis XXIII-era pink-brick houses and royal square and gardens. The newest property from the Evok hotel group (known for stylish, high-attitude properties like, Nolinski, Brach, and the newly-opened Sinner) occupies a former 17th-century residence that has been reborn as a 12-room and suite boutique hotel, complete with a restaurant that spills out onto a terrace, a tearoom, and a Roman bath. While the overall design honors the nobility of the location—it’s the first and only hotel on the Place des Vosges—the decor isn’t stuck in the 1600s. Rather, it’s a robust melding of 17th-century pieces and references with vintage furniture from the 1970s (pastel and pink velvet upholstery and floor-length drapes next to geometric wood and glass tables and ceramic vessels). The confluence is fresh and exciting—a lovely tribute to one of Paris’s most historic settings, while also being an interesting departure from it.
