Today, we ride from Provence to the edge of the Mediterranean. Imagine walking past a charming church, where you sit in the sun at the edge of a small square, or climb a virgin vine. The villages of the south of France compete in beauty. Guided tours of the most beautiful villages to visit this summer by electric car. Obviously, the guide would not be complete with a precise mapping to find the charging stations.

9 Villages

Nearly. 897 Miles

First starting with the presentation of our vehicle, we are on board the first 100% electric car of the Mini brand. Without wanting to reinvent an icon under the alibi of all “electric” the model remains faithful to the thermal versions.

This look known to everyone and which is still as successful. If the Cooper SE is an electric, it is also a Mini with the reputation for dynamism that goes with it. In terms of charging, the Mini Cooper SE can collect up to 11 kW on its Type 2 AC outlet and up to 50 kWh on its DC Combo DC outlet (standard).

Depending on today’s charging powers and for a charge from 0 to 100%, it takes from 1 hour 25 minutes to 4 hours 10 minutes for fast to accelerated charges, and more than 13 hours on the mains. It is possible to imagine a road trip with this vehicle in several steps. The stages will be the stops in the villages. In these cases, I strongly advise you to follow the route in the order indicated in order to be able to recharge the vehicle.

Now we know the route and the vehicle, it is time to start our visit.

Èze

Plunging on the Mediterranean, the village of Eze offers a breathtaking panorama. At the detour of its mazes, we also discover a neo-classical church or exotic gardens where to admire the ruins of an old castle.

Saint-Paul-de-Vence

Perched at the top of a green hill 15 minutes from the sea, the medieval village of Saint Paul de Vence enjoys an exceptional panorama stretching from the sea to the pre-Alps.

Mougins

Located in the hinterland of Cannes, like the south of France does best, the old Mougins is a real Provencal postcard. On the heights, you wander through small stone alleys, climbed by ivy and squares where there are fountains. Not to mention that you can see, in the distance, the Mediterranean which borders the Croisette.

Ramatuelle

From Saint-Tropez, just follow the famous road to the beaches of Pampelonne to reach Ramatuelle. Charming village that has perched on the foothills of the hill of Paillas. With the Mediterranean in mind, we discover a tangle of mazes populated by typical cafes and shops celebrating the Provencal art of living.

Gassin

Perched at an altitude of 200 meters on a rock in the Var, Gassin offers a panoramic view of the Gulf of Saint-Tropez. Medieval village with rustic charms, there are all the southern classics: the place where to play petanque, the cafes where to sip pastis and the shops which celebrate Provence.

Baux de Provence

In a countryside where the wind caresses the olive trees, the crickets sing their serenade, the lavender perfumes the landscape and the sun gilds the skins, the Baux de Provence bring the south to life at the height of authenticity. At its feet, the quarries of Val d’Enfer, where Jean Cocteau filmed in 1959 the Testament of Orpheus.

Gordes

Topping the list of the most beautiful villages in Provence, Gordes seduces with its typical stone architecture, but also and above all for its superb view overlooking the Luberon. Most? There is a fabulous hotel: La Bastide de Gordes.

Saignon

A charming village in the Luberon, Saignon compiles all the Provencal elements that make you dream: small stone houses, climbing with ivy, fountains, belvederes where you can admire the lavender fields… All perched on the edge of the Claparèdes plateau.

Lourmarin

Almost as famous as its castle, Lourmarin is one of the sure values, passing through the Luberon. Surrounded by vineyards and olive trees, the typically Provençal village brings together ice cream parlors, cafes that open onto squares and southern boutiques.

Road trip: Provencal art journey

I dedicate this Road Trip between the coast and the hinterland to aficionados of modern and contemporary art. Two lines of landscapes which inspired great artists like Matisse or Picasso via Renoir and Chagall, before today hosting important artistic foundations. Saint-Paul de Vence, Porquerolles, Provence, the Alpilles… Continue reading
