Lotus Takes a Bold Step with Their Second All-Electric Production Model. Introducing the Lotus Emeya, the latest addition to the company’s ambitious foray into electrification, following the well-received Eletre SUV. While it shares some onboard technology and drivetrain components with the Eletre, the Emeya is a unique creation, a ‘Hyper-GT’ coined by Lotus, ready to challenge top competitors like the Porsche Taycan and Audi e-tron GT.
This marks a significant departure from Lotus’ historical focus on two-seater sports cars, occasionally with compact rear seating. While the Emeya retains the family resemblance of faceted, duct-straked design language from the Eletre, it adopts a lower and sleeker profile, offering an intimate and bespoke passenger experience. Reflecting a trend in the premium sector, the Emeya incorporates a new ‘luxury thread’ crafted from repurposed fibers and other recycled materials.
This innovation hints at a more dynamic driving experience, building upon the Eletre’s reputation as one of the finest handling large-scale SUVs on the market. Given Lotus’ dedication to performance, the Emeya is expected to deliver on its ‘hyper’ promise.
Preliminary numbers released before the launch indicate impressive acceleration, with the top-tier model achieving a 2.8-second sprint to 62mph and robust mid-range power. EV enthusiasts also value range, and while rapid acceleration may not necessarily shorten your journey, the Emeya is expected to surpass the Eletre’s impressive 370-mile range.
Additionally, the Emeya shares the Eletre’s capability to replenish its range rapidly, adding 93 miles in just five minutes on a (rare) 350kW fast charger, reaching an 80% charge in 18 minutes. Notable technologies include active aerodynamics for improved stability and efficiency, as well as electronically controlled air suspension. It will also feature the Eletre’s remarkable Dolby Atmos-enabled audio system, a result of collaboration with KEF.
Production of the new Emeya is scheduled to commence in 2024 at the same Chinese facility as the Eletre, with pricing details to be revealed at a later date.
