A brand-new dining establishment has made its debut in the heart of Koukaki, a central neighborhood in Athens. Gallina, the latest creation by the acclaimed design studio Objects of Common Interest, masterfully melds art, design, and gastronomy into a concept brought to life by founders Leonidas Trampoukis and Eleni Petaloti, the dynamic duo behind LOT office for architecture. The outcome was conceived not only to offer a world-class dining experience but also to convey the worldly travels and culinary passions of the restaurant’s owner, Philippos Tsangrides.
Gallina’s fundamental mission extends beyond the traditional confines of a restaurant. As the designers explain, “Our goal is to provide visitors with an immersive experience that blurs the boundaries between art, design, and gastronomy. We’ve translated these core values and ideas into tangible forms, materials, and textures.”
Occupying a modest 105 square meters, Gallina can accommodate a cozy 38 guests. The design maximizes the space’s lofty ceilings, introducing an understated sense of grandeur through height and the use of opulent materials, such as custom-crafted marble furnishings, including tables and chairs, as well as a well-appointed bar and an open kitchen.
The interior material palette seamlessly blends stainless steel and warm wood. Given the owner’s penchant for collecting, the restaurant artfully integrates moments of artistic celebration. One notable example is the hand-knotted wool and silk tapestry by artist Jannis Varelas, which adorns the wall in front of an elegant light column.
Furthermore, a staircase at the rear of the restaurant leads patrons to the mezzanine, where private dining and wine tastings are offered. This elevated space boasts a wall shelving and cabinet system that elegantly displays the extensive on-site wine collection.
