The renowned hotel chain, The Hoxton, makes its debut in Poblenou, one of Barcelona’s trendiest neighborhoods. A new hotel boasting a pool, a bar, a taquería, a bodega, a pizzeria, and a novel four-person room with a kitchenette.
Each Hoxton hotel mirrors the essence of its surrounding neighborhood, drawing inspiration from the creativity and diversity of its streets. This week, The Hoxton opens its doors in Barcelona, transforming the former industrial district of Poblenou into a multifaceted destination.
Located just moments from the sea, yet seamlessly connected to the city center, Poblenou has evolved from the 22@ project, repurposing old factories into artist studios, exhibition spaces, coworking hubs like Palo Alto, advertising agencies, lofts, trendy eateries, and art schools. It has emerged as one of the city’s most culturally rich neighborhoods, boasting contemporary art museums like Can Framis and the iconic nightclub-concert venue Razzmatazz, with panoramic views of the Sagrada Familia.
The hotel features a rooftop terrace with a pool adorned with canopy loungers, a taquería/bar, and sweeping vistas of the Sagrada Familia. On the ground floor, the Four Corners pizzeria sprawls across a spacious hall and a sun-drenched terrace, also offering takeaway slices. A bodega completes this unique establishment, serving up the finest aperitivos, wines, and craft beers from Barcelona.
The 240 rooms, categorized into five types, include the Homey, ideal for families and long-term guests, equipped with a kitchen and living area. Each room boasts terracotta floors, floral prints, and natural jute rugs in a palette of delicate hues (mint green, ocher, amber, navy blue…). Wicker and natural materials create intimate, serene, and warm spaces, exuding a revitalizing sea breeze and the gentle warmth of sunlight. The bathrooms, adorned with Zellige tiles, exude freshness and luminosity, enhanced by rain showers and Hoxton’s classic body care range, Blank. Some rooms feature a bathtub, perfect for unwinding after a day of exploration.
Artistic collaborations adorn the hotel’s lobby, including a vibrant hand-painted mural by Maria Marvila and decor elements designed by Catalan artist Jose Antonio Roda. Each room and the Four Corners pizzeria showcase artworks curated by John Brown Projects. The open kitchen and rounded bar are framed by a colorful hand-painted mural by Caroline Denervaud, with a concrete facade and red leather stools. The Apartment and La Cava feature a mural painted by local artist Sandra Modrego.
To support the neighborhood, Best Of offers a collection of limited edition products created in collaboration with some of the city’s finest artisans and manufacturers, available exclusively at the hotel boutique. All brands are eco-friendly: printed shirts, t-shirts, and swimwear from Brava Fabrics, sunglasses from Etnia Barcelona, organic cosmetics from Rowse, chocolates from LOT Roasters, and screen prints and ceramic figurines from Jose Antonio Roda.
The lobby, spacious and bathed in sunlight, comprises several serene nooks and crannies, housing Best Of, a boutique showcasing locally curated products. The Apartment, a meeting and event space, and La Cava, a multifunctional subterranean venue, cater to cultural programs and soirées.
Perched atop the roof, the Mexican bar/taquería Tope offers a 360-degree panoramic view of the city. Guests can enjoy the scenery from cozy sofas or armchairs, or simply relax on a canopy lounger by the pool. With a capacity for up to 100 people, Tope may become the hottest spot for Barcelona weekends, featuring DJ sets on Friday and Saturday evenings.
The décor draws inspiration from Mexican cuisine, featuring colorful geometric azulejos tables, lush greenery, cacti, artisanal clay objects suspended above the bar, striped hammocks, and a spectacular granite pool. The bodega is designed as a contemporary version of the traditional Spanish wine cellar, placing emphasis on brand, product, and experimental touches, with shelves spanning from floor to ceiling and intentionally kitschy and industrial details.
Situated in the former The Gates Diagonal hotel, The Hoxton has its own interior design agency, Ennismore. Founded in 2011 by entrepreneur Sharan Pasricha, Ennismore combines branding expertise with unparalleled creative storytelling, making it the world’s largest hospitality and lifestyle company. “We create lasting connections with our guests at the heart of the most exciting journeys. We invent brands and experiences that resonate deeply, with award-winning interior architecture and effective communication channels, both physical and digital,” explains the agency.
