If 2022 saw Paris taking the lead in hotel openings and 2023 was the year of regional spots, the Middle East (Emirates, Qatar, Saudi Arabia) is taking the spotlight this time. Collegio alla Querce, Florence
Formerly a cultural institution and boarding school north of Florence, the new 5-star hotel, signed by Auberge Resorts, brings together three neighboring 16th-century buildings, including a chapel and an old theater. The hotel, set to open in 2024, will feature 82 keys, including 20 suites and a 210 sqm signature suite, as well as several restaurants. One of the restaurants will be situated amidst an olive garden, and other amenities include a bar, a cigar lounge, and a second bar next to the outdoor pool. The spa and wine-tasting room will also be part of the experience, all surrounded by baroque gardens spread across 5 large terraces with a view of the Duomo.

The Hoxton Dublin
Once restored, the iconic Central Hotel and the Library Bar in the Irish capital, on Exchequer Street, will reopen as a new 129-room hotel, bearing the stamp of the trendy and urban English collection, The Hoxton. A large lobby serving as a living space for coffee, networking, and working on Mac, a wine bar, a restaurant, and even a concert hall are part of the hotel’s offerings.

Ultima Quai Wilson, Geneva, Switzerland
The collection of ultra-luxury private villas and resorts, Ultima (Megève, Courchevel, Gstaad, Corfu…), will open its second address in Geneva in 2024: Ultima Quai Wilson, on the right bank of Lake Geneva. The 5 residences, each with 3 to 6 bedrooms, occupying one floor each, will offer a true 5-star service and will be decorated with Italian materials, wooden parquet floors, noble materials, and spectacular chandeliers. The master bedroom of each apartment will unfold over 26 sqm and offer a view of the lake, just like the living spaces. Lastly, for the ultimate luxury in an urban address, access to a well-being area with jacuzzi, sauna, steam room, and two private treatment cabins.

One&Only Kea Island, Cyclades, Greece
Surrounded by spectacular sea views and a sandy beach providing a natural harbor and shelter from the Aegean Sea winds, One&Only Kea Island is located on Tzia (Kea), the closest Cycladic island to Athens. The 65-hectare seaside site will house 75 villas and private residences, some with private infinity pools. The offerings also include 3 restaurants and 2 bars, a high-end fitness center with indoor and outdoor spaces, and a wellness spa. A communal lounge cantilevered on the hill will be the perfect spot for a Greek cocktail at sunset.

The Reserve, Madeira, Portugal
The Madiera Savoy Signature Hotel in the capital city of Funchal is set to introduce its new exclusive hotel concept: The Reserve. This boutique hotel, part of the Leading Hotels of the World, will open its doors on January 15, 2024, within the Savoy Palace Hotel but with its own lobby. It offers 40 rooms and suites with sea views, most located on the 16th floor, each inspired by the four colors of Madeira’s flora and equipped with Bvlgari amenities. For those seeking a higher level of luxury, suites with private pools are also available. On the dining front, The Reserve offers the Jacarandá Club on the 16th floor, where guests can enjoy a selection of tapas and drinks while taking in the view of the Atlantic Ocean. In the evening, this space transforms into Nikkei, offering a gastronomic experience combining Japanese cuisine with global influences. Guests will have access to the facilities of the Savoy Palace, including the Laurea spa, pools, and direct access to the sea via the neighboring Royal Savoy hotel.

Orient Express “La Dolce Vita,” Italy
Not exactly a new luxury hotel, but almost. Inspired by the golden age of the Orient Express and its mythical routes, the iconic Orient Express train, under the management of Accor, plans a new journey for 2024 that will unveil the best of Italy from north to south, across 14 regions, and from 3 international destinations: Paris, Istanbul, and Split. In decadent luxury, the 62 passengers will travel on a brand-new 11-car train featuring 12 Deluxe cabins, 18 suites, and a Prestige suite, all with bathrooms, for a journey that will cost an average of €2,000 per person per night according to Le Figaro. Cultural visits will be organized in major art cities such as Milan, Florence, Venice, or Mantua. A special space for passengers will be set up at Rome Termini station, while a luxury hotel bearing the Orient Express stamp will open in Palazzo Fonsecca, next to the Pantheon.

Dunas de Formentera, Balearic Islands
On the confidential island of Formentera in the Balearic Islands, the cousin of the Gecko Hotel & Beach Club will open on Migjorn Beach, offering 44 rooms and suites, including 14 with sea views. An infinity pool, a restaurant with wood-fired Mediterranean-inspired cuisine, as well as Neapolitan wood-fired pizzas, are part of the hotel’s commitment to minimal environmental impact through photovoltaic energy and local sourcing.

Rosewood Schloss Fuschl, Austria
On the shores of Lake Fuschl, a short distance from Salzburg, the second Rosewood hotel in Austria will open, taking over the legendary Schloss Fuschl Hotel. This 15th-century castle, completely renovated, will feature 98 keys, including 46 suites and six luxurious chalets, as well as restaurants and the Asaya spa with indoor and outdoor pools.
Rosewood has also announced the acquisition of 3 hotels in New Zealand and the opening of properties in Amsterdam, Miyakojima in Japan, and Doha.

AlmaLusa Alfama, Lisbon
After Lisbon and Comporta, the Portuguese hotel group AlmaLusa inaugurates its third address in the Alfama district of Lisbon. Guests of the 25 rooms of the hotel located on the charming Campo das Cebolas square will enjoy this picturesque neighborhood with its narrow and winding streets and its viewpoints over the Tagus, as well as an ultra-personalized 24/7 concierge service. Additionally, in this meticulously restored 12th-century building, Delfina Café will offer a melting pot of local and international flavors, including the famous petiscos, delicious Portuguese tapas. Lisbon and national brands have been summoned to evoke the Portuguese essence of the place.

Six Senses Svart, Norway
Situated on the outskirts of the Arctic Circle at the foot of the Svartisen glacier in the municipality of Meløy, Six Senses Svart will be the group’s first venture in Scandinavia, designed by the renowned Norwegian architecture firm Snøhetta. Entirely off the grid and energy-positive, this eco-friendly hotel boasts a distinctly futuristic architecture, featuring a circular design to optimize panoramic views while respecting the environment and minimizing its footprint through a system of stilts. Six Senses Svart promises an immersive and disconnected experience with its 94 rooms equipped with Svart Touch technology, allowing guests to adjust the room ambiance based on mood and well-being. The establishment will also house a zero-waste restaurant and a spa with the Alchemy Bar, transforming local flora and minerals into treatments. To raise awareness about environmental issues, the hotel will develop engaging educational programs for children, including the Earth Lab and Svart Design Lab—an incubator promoting innovation and education. The Six Senses Svart aims to be the world’s first positive-energy hotel, thanks to its roof covered with solar panels, autonomous waste and water management, and collaboration with sustainable farms and fisheries.

Hotel Casa Monti, Rome
Between the Colosseum and the Central Station, the Monti district is the trendy and alternative area of the Italian capital. It’s where the new Casa Monti hotel will be located, the latest addition to the Leitmotiv group (La Fantaisie in Paris, where chef Dominique Crenn operates). Once again, Laura Gonzalez, is bringing her colorful touch to this hotel, drawing inspiration from sprezzatura—the Italian art of dressing with studied nonchalance. The hotel will offer 26 rooms and 10 suites, a rooftop bar, a restaurant with a terrace, a bar in the courtyard, and a rooftop spa. The address: 210 via Panisperna.

Mandarin Oriental Mayfair
London After Hyde Park, the Mandarin Oriental is establishing its second address in Mayfair, unveiling 50 rooms and 78 private apartments with views of Hanover Square (home to the Pace Gallery). Without even staying overnight, guests can indulge in one of the four bars and restaurants signed by the star chef Akira Back (who recently invested in the Prince de Galles in Paris): a restaurant named Akira Back, the Korean counter Dosa, a festive cocktail bar, and an Asian-influenced rooftop bar.

OKU Andalusia, Spain
Boasting views of the Rock of Gibraltar and the North African coast beyond the sea, the new OKU Andalusia is located in the village of Alcaidesa. It offers a wide selection of suites, penthouse rooms with terraces, and double suites in a contemporary boho-chic atmosphere ideally suited for this beachfront retreat. In addition to the rooms, the resort includes three infinity pools on terraces—an undoubtedly Instagrammable location—and several restaurants, including the Mediterranean-themed To Kima and the Asian Restaurant Oku. While adults can relax at the beach club, children can enjoy the kids’ club or the family pool. Myth of Nicosia, Cyprus
While Cyprus is known for its beaches, its capital, Nicosia, holds many architectural treasures, good taverns, and a charming, simultaneously vibrant and old-fashioned atmosphere. You can immerse yourself in this atmosphere in April next year with Amyth of Nicosia, a new family-owned hotel from Thanos Hotels. Set in a renovated city in the city, enclosed by Venetian ramparts, the hotel unfolds its splendid grand staircase and its period-tiled floors. The program includes 10 keys, a restaurant, a bar, a library, and an outdoor terrace—all designed by Cypriot interior architect Maria Neophytou, with a patio shaded by lemon and olive trees.

Roméo Roma, Italy
The most French of Rome’s hotels is about to open near Piazza del Popolo in a 16th-century palace designed by the offices of the late star architect Zaha Hadid. In the kitchen, a spectacular new hotspot is announced with Il Ristorante Alain Ducasse, supervised by the protege of the multi-starred chef, Stéphane Petit. On the spa side, Sisley Paris will take charge of the wellness center and the indoor and outdoor pools.
Radically blending art, gastronomy, and well-being, the new property will also feature a 2,000 m2 outdoor courtyard called “Il Cortile,” a casual restaurant and bar, and on the roof, a bar with a panoramic view of the city. 74 rooms and suites are announced.

Villa Kennedy, Frankfurt, Germany
The Althoff hotel group takes charge and completes the renovation of Villa Kennedy, a former mansion dating back to 1901, just a few steps from the Main River. The program includes 147 rooms, 95 studios, 39 suites (of which only twelve are in the main pavilion), twelve lofts, and a presidential suite.
